Not every insect found in an apartment is a cockroach. However, if you notice several of the signs below, there is a strong chance that cockroaches are present.
You spot a cockroach at night
Cockroaches are predominantly nocturnal. Most often they appear after turning off the lights in the kitchen, bathroom or near water sources. If you turn on the light at night and see a cockroach running away, this is one of the most recognisable signs of infestation.
Cockroaches appear during the day
Under normal conditions, cockroaches try to avoid light and human activity. If you start noticing them during the day, this may indicate that the population has already increased significantly and the insects do not have enough shelter.
Cockroaches appear near sinks or pipes
Cockroaches need constant access to water. That is why you can often find them:

A German cockroach female carries a capsule holding a few dozen eggs until they are almost ready to hatch, then leaves it in a hiding place. The shell protects the eggs from most products.
